individual therapy
One person. One hour. Nowhere to perform.
Ongoing 1:1 work, talk and body-aware practice together, shaped entirely around your story, not a protocol applied to everyone who walks in.
Provided through my role as a licensed associate counselor at Layers Therapy.
how i actually work
You've probably said one of these before.
"We talked about my childhood every week. Nothing changed."
"I understood exactly why I do it. I still couldn't do anything different."
"My therapist just nodded and asked how that made me feel."
"I spent fifty minutes performing that I was okay."
"No one ever asked about my body, my culture, or my faith."
This isn't that.
I don't call it "the therapeutic relationship." I call it a container, something strong enough to actually hold what you bring into it.
"The quality of that container is one of the most consistent predictors of whether therapy works at all."
Flückiger, Del Re, Wampold & Horvath · meta-analysis of the therapeutic alliance across hundreds of studies
So the container gets built from more than one thing.
You don't heal alone in a room by yourself, even when the room only has two people in it. AEDP works directly with that aloneness, and with the felt experience of finally not being in it.
Not a technique applied to you. A container built with you.
what sessions actually look like
Not a script. A relationship that develops, and ends well.
Session five doesn't look like session one, and the last session shouldn't be an afterthought either. Here's honestly what each stage involves.
01
Opening
the first session
Less about diagnosing you, more about understanding you. What brought you here, what you've already tried, and what "stuck" actually feels like in your specific life.
- Your story, in your own words, at your own pace
- What's already working, not just what's broken
- A first read on what the container needs to hold
- No pressure to have it all figured out yet
02
Deepening
the sessions after that
This is where the real work happens, and it shifts week to week based on what's actually alive for you, not a fixed curriculum applied regardless of what walks in the door.
- Some weeks are talk. Some weeks are the body.
- Patterns get named as they show up live, not just recalled
- Ruptures get repaired in real time, not smoothed over
- Pace is renegotiated constantly, never assumed
03
Closing
the ending
How this ends matters as much as how it went. Many people have only ever had therapy stop, insurance ran out, life got busy, it just faded. That's not how this closes.
- Ending is planned together, not something that just happens to you
- What changed gets named out loud, not assumed
- We talk honestly about what might bring you back someday
- You leave with something, not just an empty calendar slot
All three stages stay flexible. If something needs more time, including the closing, it gets more time.
is this the right fit
Worth knowing before you reach out.
likely a good fit
You want a relationship with your therapist, not just a technique applied to you week after week
You're carrying anxiety, depression, trauma, or a life transition that talk alone hasn't fully moved
Your culture, identity, or faith matter to you and you want a therapist who treats that as real, not incidental
You're open to the body being part of the conversation, even if you've never worked that way before
may not be the right fit yet
You're in acute crisis or need a higher level of care right now
You're looking for medication management rather than therapy
You need a specialist in a specific area (eating disorders, custody evaluations, etc.) outside this scope
You're looking for advice and direction more than a collaborative process
the practical part
No surprises. Here's exactly what this involves.

One thing worth knowing plainly
Individual therapy is provided through my role as a licensed associate counselor at Layers Therapy, not directly through WDML. Intake paperwork, scheduling, and clinical records live there. This page is where you get to know how I work, Layers is where the actual care happens.
before you go
You don't have to know what to say yet.
A first message doesn't need to be well-written or fully explained. "I think I need to talk to someone" is a complete sentence. I'll take it from there.
